Letter from Daphne Bankes to Thomas Hardy, 25 August 1917
[Page 1]I hope you will forgive me for writing to you, but I wonder if you would be so kind as to send me your autograph with a few words as well.
I am making a collection of the signatures [Page 2] of famous men, and without yours it would never be complete.
We are so proud of you as belonging to our county, and my Mother is one of the greatest admirers of your writings.
We should be so pleased [Page 3] if you could come over and see us here, although, of course, it is very difficult at present to get about.
Hoping you will not mind my writing to you –
I remain
Yours sincerely
Daphne Bankes.
