My dear Hardy,

I was much grieved to read in the papers yesterday of the death of Mrs Hardy, & I trust you will permit me as an old friend to offer you my most sincere symnpathy in your loss. I have very lively recollections of Mrs Hardy's unfailing kindness when I visited at Max Gate or called on you in London, & I shall always remember her with gratitude. I hope that your own health is fairly sustained, & that I may see you when I am again in Town, tho' that nowadays is seldom & only on the shortest visits.

With renewed sincere sympathy & kindest remembrance,

yours ever truly

G. Douglas
